NOTES/AFTERWORD.

*With that said although one admits to be an 'amateur' one has attempted to try and take on a somewhat thorough approach to what appears by all accounts what can be a polarising environmental subject; although it may be felt there is quite some 'haphazard latitude' in the general presentation varying from what may pass as professional and formal through to the informal and so forth. Nevertheless, this website may at least prove to be one positive legacy of the present health situation as it is initially being produced during a lengthy Sydney lockdown of which the virus itself can be viewed as the latest symptom of a 'human-damaged' global environment.
** I cannot stress this enough as so much top-down analysis etc [i.e. in a very general sense as of course, there are always notable exceptions: the Global North of the Global South] has been imperially utilised by the West which colonises not only in an invasively direct economic/political/social/military way but also through a somewhat more subtle cultural/anthropological/academic/'white saviour' etc elitist framing to suit its point of view/interests etc rather than looking at any reality through - what is certainly - a more vital first nations/indigenous lens. (The expression the 'dark side of the Enlightenment' is rather apt, I believe especially when also so called 'objective' science was insidiously co-opted by the West to achieve an acceptable cultural outlook which with its eugenic philosophical undercurrents would well suit imperialist aims). Indigenous peoples need to be fully supported to maintain their human rights and land rights and to push back ongoing corporate takeovers of their lands._
***I hope one's writing skills will prove proficient enough for the reader to understand what is written. One may also wish to note that this website is experimental, definitely a 'work in progress' and is somewhat an 'organic' development that has come about due to the perceived technical limits of Twitter [e.g. word count etc]. It may interest the reader that at 'time of writing' [14 September, 2021] the Twitter palm oil thread is already about two+ years old - as has been commented: a 'mega-thread'. I think it was inadvertently started in the last quarter 2019 (maybe around September...). It was not intended to have such a thread which is perhaps an initial organic development etc. Hopefully, one will also add much information via web links etc to exterior articles of interest etc which also depends on my technical proficiency which is limited to say the least.

OTHER INFORMATION

MONGABAY. One very good online resource on all things environmental which I mention as their articles often appear on the palm oil thread is Mongabay. Thus it is only fair as a last repost on this home page that I make others aware of Mongabay's good work. Here is a link that leads to various articles on palm oil. All the best:

Palm Oil News

WORLD RAINFOREST MOVEMENT. Well, here is another online resource [amongst many] which has appealed to me in recent times and covers palm oil in its worthwhile critiques against monoculture. It may not be as well known so present here. This particular World Rainforest Movement webpage focuses on palm oil:

Palm Oil

Also by way of WRM one also now knows that  September 21st is the  International Day of Struggle Against Monoculture Tree Plantations.

As WRM also says which is worth the reminder: plantations are not forests!

If at all interested here is my Twitter handle*:

(Hopefully, the link should work and take you to my home social media page otherwise it should be easy enough to look up as have had technical issues in attempts to post a direct link).
Although not an academic to be amusingly dubbed a 'citizen academic' has come to mind...

*One will note I do not even include palm oil in my in my profile as don't feel qualified to do so even though I do post at a regular basis matters pertinent to this issue (rather printmaking, writing and human rights are my preferred interests).
**Unfortunately, I have had some initial issues with my Twitter handle on this webpage which I have successfully been able to upload onto my main website [ which can be found by typing into search - nicholas nicola etchings - thus I have obviously forgotten the technical process. Such is interfacing with 'digital life'. Apologies if link does not readily work]. One should also note that this website much like my etching website will have a 'home-made' quality about it...
____________________________________________________________________________________

P.S. One housekeeping matter is the link to this website - nnculture.yolasite.com - is named such as it was already attributed when one was originally establishing a website to post my printmaking - mainly etchings [a website which still exists and which is the main website I link on my social media profile and can be viewed by simply typing in - nicholas nicola etchings - I'm sure a webpage link will come up...]. The name/link has been kept as it has just proven technically easier to do so and in a way is a result of the spontaneous/ ad hoc decision to suddenly set this website up. As it is I have experimented by adding a twitter share button at the bottom of the page and hope that works if anyone decides to share and it will be added to all webpages on this website. Well, I think that it's for this intro page. All the best again. NN.

FINAL COMMENT. Like I say, I just see myself as a messenger while otherwise do the real hard research especially - in the field - to bring the message. A couple of examples Mongabay & World Rainforest Movement are amongst so many which one can discover while sauntering online and which amongst those I have discovered have more so verified my present negative attitude towards palm oil. As for those who facilitate a more measured positive position towards palm oil their counter-weight arguments have yet to be able to change my mind  and have only reinforced my negativity to palm oil I received what I felt to be some unwarranted  hostile attention from social media pro-palm oil trolls at a time when I only had a passing cursory interest and which only motivated me to take this environmental matter more seriously yet in the spirit of democracy one invites anyone to look at a whole spectrum of attitudes etcetera to come to one's own individual perspective.  All the best.NN._

ZOOM IN/VIEW function. One is aware the NOTES etc font maybe too small for some readers - it is of a smaller size simply so as to differentiate from the main/introductory text as well as to have some semblance of uniformity in the presentation and so forth. In case one is not aware there are Zoom In/View functions on most browsers that allow one to magnify a webpage. View is usually on the top of a webpage which one presses on with cursor and in the drop down column which then appears one then presses on the required option such as Zoom In then of course one may then wish to return to Actual Size. Hope that is of some help.  All the best.
